Are you wondering what the heck a fertility coach is or does?
Why it’s a good idea to have one?
There are many different kinds of fertility coaches, and I am blessed and fortunate that many have become dear friends. Each of us has a specific niche we serve and how we work with our clients. Some work on mindset, some work on holistic approaches (like Chinese Medicine or acupuncture), and some work solely on the emotional aspects. Each of us employs the techniques with which we know and have had success. More than likely, this person has been through the trials and tribulations of infertility treatments and testing and made it through successfully to the other side.
The infertility journey can be tough on your body, mind, marriage, relationships, and so much more. Often the doctor’s offices are so busy that getting the emotional support and guidance you need is impossible. Couples are sometimes left to their own devices to figure out the rocky road of treatments. They don’t always know the best way to get to the family they want while still staying connected.
I decided to become a coach because I felt that something was missing while going through my own journey. I was missing a friend who had been through it before me. Someone who could help me through each step of the process, supporting me and guiding me on what I could try next to succeed. I was looking for more than a cold medical point of view. I also wanted to know what other kinds of doctors and testing were available to me that may have fallen outside of the typical. I felt so alone and isolated during the process, and I didn’t know how to fix it. I didn’t have anyone who truly understood what it was like to be in my shoes. I had a hard time being happy for others, especially if they were pregnant. I felt like an awful person and tremendous guilt because no one was there to tell me how normal my feelings were.
Now I should say I had an excellent therapist who supported me through my journey. Despite our weekly talks, I still felt alone and the time spent trying to get pregnant, impossible. I also eventually found a doctor with whom I was in sync, but I was still missing that person who could connect all the dots for me.
I didn’t know then that having the right mindset can increase your fertility by up to 50%! The stats are there, and women who get mind-body help have a higher chance of conceiving, fewer miscarriages, and so much more. But, fertility coaching for me is more than just mindset work. It’s practical advice and rolling up your sleeves to figure out where the breakdown is. My approach is very tactical while still being aware of all the emotions that surface. My framework pulls it all together with how I had success and how I find success for my clients.
Fertility coaching isn’t for everyone. Some may feel that charging for such a service when treatments are so expensive is wrong. It’s perfectly understandable if some feel that way and don’t see the value. However, the reality is that there are costs and time commitments associated with running any business. My passion for helping infertile women goes beyond my business. I am honored to work alongside organizations like Resolve, ASRM, and several non-for-profits in addition to my paid programs.
If there was such a thing back in the day, I definitely would have invested in a fertility coach. You need to decide if it’s worth it to have someone who fully understands where you are and can provide information that would take you twice as long to figure out on your own. To many, weighing the cost of the coach and how much quicker you can get pregnant, maybe even lower the number of cycles they need, is a no-brainer.
Typically you can expect about a 30% chance of success with any given cycle. If that were to double, you might need 2 cycles instead of 3, which would be a considerable saving. In infertility, just like in life, there are no guarantees but understanding the potential positive impact both financially and emotionally is essential.
Knowledge is power, and I genuinely hope that I was able to give you some today. If you have any questions, reach out to me, and I would be more than happy to provide you with an honest answer.
